Does it feel like your eating habits have become unmanageable? You are not alone in your struggles, Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is the most commonly experienced eating disorder in the US today (NIH). Our brain can hijack us and we can find our thoughts or actions feel outside of our control. This can lead to eating to the point of feeling uncomfortable and a guilt/overeating cycle.
Maybe you’ve gotten to the point you’ve had enough. Maybe you’ve noticed feeling every other area of your life takes more effort because of the impact of BED on your life. Perhaps you’re feeling anxious, sad, hopeless, or self-critical about your eating.
Whatever it is you’re experiencing, you’re beginning to notice the impact of this in every facet of your life:
- Worry about impact on physical and mental health
- Feeling judged by others
- The mind being preoccupied with thoughts about food
Feeling self-conscious when eating with others
Struggles with self-esteem and self-image
A combination of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) can help.
It may feel impossible now, but you can get your life back. You can change binging patterns. You can improve mood and health. And I can help you work to get there.
A combination of CBT and ACT helps you do these five things:
- Identify values and goals and what you would like to see happen after symptoms have resolved
- Better understand the factors involved in the current patterns of behavior and identify steps to take to slowly change this cycle
- Build mindful eating skills
- Build skills to defuse from unhelpful thoughts that keep you stuck as well as perspective taking
- Work towards increasing committed actions towards personal goals
I’ll help you through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to Binge Eating Disorder comes from a place of hope and care believing that with effort, action, and practice of new skills you can make these important changes.
Binge eating and self-judgements don’t have to be your story!
You don’t have to life feeling guilt and hopeless.
I can help you work to get there.
